The ideal time to plant your tree(s) is dependent upon your geographic location. For customers in the northern states the best time to plant is in the spring or fall. For customers in the southern states, the best times are in fall, winter and early spring. Since our plants are grown in containers, they are suitable to plant anytime except when the ground is frozen or excessively dry.
Under-watering and over-watering are both harmful to trees. Check the soil to see if it is moist or dry. Soil should be moist, not soggy, or dry. New trees should be watered immediately after being planted and should be watered as often as is necessary to keep the soil moist, but not soggy. This may be 2-3 times a week if the weather is hot and dry. As your plant becomes established it will need less water.
Mulching helps insulate trees from extreme weather conditions and helps soil retain water to keep the roots hydrated. Place a 3 foot circle of mulch around your tree at 2-3 inches deep. Be sure to keep the mulch at least 3 inches away from the trunk of the tree.
During the shipping and transplanting process, it is not uncommon for plants to experience some minor leaf shedding or color change to the leaves. This is not a concern as your tree has a healthy root system and can easily replace any discolored or wilted leaves. If you find any discolored or wilted leaves to be unsightly, simply remove them. Your tree will replace these old leaves with new and vigorous leaves, regardless of whether you remove the affected leaves.
We do our best to avoid issues like this and thoroughly check orders before shipping them out, unfortunately mistakes do happen. Please use the chat now button, so we can fix the problem as soon as possible.
Many of our trees and plants will be professionally pruned before shipping. Proper pruning will reduce stress on the plant during shipping and transplanting and often times light pruning is necessary to ensure that your plant fits in the shipping package without bending or breaking limbs.
Don’t worry. Young plants typically have very few limbs until they become better established. Our new plant is full of buds along the main stem that as your plant becomes better established will start to emerge and form the limbs you are looking for.
We make every effort to ensure that mistakes aren’t made in our order packaging process, but if for some reason you receive a plant that is clearly the wrong size, simply send us a copy of your order confirmation and a picture with a ruler showing the actual height of the tree and we will refund or replace the plant with the correct product. If a shorter plant is still acceptable to you then we will make a partial refund to true up your order pricing to the applicable pricing for the actual height of your plant.
