Product Description

Crape Myrtle, Red Rocket

The Red Queen of the crape myrtles is, of course, none other than the absolutely magnificent Red Rocket Crape Myrtle, a majestic ornamental tree with a jaw-dropping growth rate, rugged adaptability, and brilliant crimson blossoms.

What distinguishes the lovely Red Rocket Crape Myrtle?

  • Mesmerizing blood-red blossoms.

  • Extremely rapid growth rate.

  • Disease-resistant.

  • Drought tolerant.

  • Compact size, making it ideal for small yards and lawns.

  • Dense foliage and gorgeous fall color.

Keeping up appearances…

The Red Rocket Crape Myrtle is nothing if not a show-stopper. It grows at rocket speed when compared to other members of the botanic kingdom, usually reaching heights of 12-15 ft. (though it can grow taller) as a small tree or large shrub with an elegant upright structure. The Red Rocket Crape Myrtle boasts glossy green leaves that soon play second fiddle to the tree’s massive clusters of scarlet summer flowers that last all through the season. Autumn paints the Red Rocket Crape Myrtle’s leaves in hues of honeyed yellow before they are shed to reveal the tree’s attractive exfoliating brown bark.

A friendly recommendation.

The Red Rocket Crape Myrtle is partial to full sun and moist, well-drained soils, although it is adaptable to many types of soil. With a 6-9 hardiness zone rating, this flowering tree requires minimal pruning and is commendably drought-tolerant and generally quite low-maintenance. If multiple such trees are planted to create a privacy screen, they are best grown about 4 ft. apart to allow for adequate breathing room. Of course, Lagerstroemia Indica Red Rocket grows just as spectacularly as a stand-alone ornamental specimen.

Awesome tree trivia!

  • The Red Rocket Crape Myrtle’s blossoms will appear as a lighter red color during the tree’s early years; as the tree matures, its blossoms will darken annually until they are colored a deep, rich scarlet.
  • Crape myrtles are also sometimes termed crepe myrtles. Why “crepe”? Take a closer look at the Red Rocket Crape Myrtle’s flower petals and you’ll realize that they’re delightfully wrinkled like… crepe paper.
  • Lauded as the fastest-growing crape myrtle, this crimson-flowered beauty grows as quickly as 5 feet per year!
